Do you tell yourself “I’m fine”?

There’s a reason you’re reading this blog post. Not like a “the universe wants me to read this” kind of way, but like a “part of me knows I’m not actually fine” kind of way.

I know so many survivors that put off going to therapy for years while telling themselves that they are “fine”.

If you do this, what does “fine” mean to you? Does it mean you can still do “x”  even though you are suffering in some way? Like, you can still bring in a paycheck even though you have vivid nightmares most nights?

Does it mean you’re really good at ignoring something?

Does being “fine” mean that maybe the bad thing didn’t really happen, and that is a better world to live in right now?

I believe that you are fine…compared to how things for you have been before.

I believe that you are fine…because you can still go to work or school and mostly function through a day or two.

I also believe that you deserve better than “fine”.

I gently ask you to consider–how bad does it need to get before you reach out for help? Why not begin therapy before a break-down or a crisis?
